Kestrel - Training Equipment
To counter the latest threats from RCIEDs, ECS has developed a family of RF Inhibitors. The entry level is a lightweight man pack jammer. KESTREL is a family of flexible-role lightweight jamming systems designed for easy deployment. The system can be rapidly deployed in a back pack, or a carry forward frame. To compliment this range of products, ECS has developed comprehensive Kestrel Training Equipment and User Manual for assistance at user level. The top level user or instructor is able to construct a fill to act as a catalyst to trigger faults on a Training KESTREL.
Training Kestrel Operating Manual
The information supplied in the Operating Manual details the workings of all the Training kestrels that fall under the Generic Training Kestrel Umbrella and also details the workings of special fault finding fills. The Kestrels currently available in the training range are:
• Assy-Kestrel Alpha Training Inhibitor
• Assy-Kestrel Bravo Training Inhibitor
• Assy-Kestrel Charlie Training Inhibitor
• Assy-Kestrel Delta Training Inhibitor
The operating Manual will refer to the common elements between the four variants of training kestrel. Any differences or special functions unique to a single variant may not be covered in the manual.
The Training Kestrel is a representative Man-Portable RF Inhibitor designed to be a low cost alternative for training centres and customers to the fully operable Kestrel Inhibitor range.
The Training Kestrels can be used to simulate faults during real life scenario training or can simply be used in the classroom to demonstrate the workings of a Kestrel RF inhibitor. All RF capabilities have been removed from the “actual” weight-training kestrel.
The Training KESTREL is fully programmable via a software Fill. All information required to
configure the inhibitor is contained within the fill data itself. The fill file can be prepared
independently and passed to the user to download into the unit on site. The top level user or instructor is able to construct a fill to act as a catalyst to trigger faults on a Training KESTREL.
The loading of these fills follows an identical process to loading a fill into a fully operational KESTREL RF Inhibitor so students/users are unaware of what fault may occur, if any, while at the same time learning the procedure for filling a KESTREL RF inhibitor.
The software fill is loaded into the unit using a Fill Gun, which is a flash memory based hardware device, programmed using a PC and the Fill Loader software application. The fill can also be programmed straight into the KESTREL from a Laptop PC via an RS232 serial link.
The equipment is operated directly from the control panel built into the top of the unit itself. An optional hand-held controller provides more detailed information regarding the operational status of the equipment for diagnostic purposes.
The KESTREL can be physically configured for operation with either a LIPS-5 or LIPS-9 battery and includes a Low Battery alarm to indicate that battery replacement is due.
